Meeting expectations

Woman thinking

Somehow, I think we were all born with the curse of having to meet people’s expectations.

We ourselves tend to have high expectations of our loved ones, dear friends, and anyone who becomes close to us. And if they do something to shatter these expectations, we feel disappointed.

But just as we have expectations of others, others have expectations of us as well.

And these expectations – they can be suffocating. Oftentimes, we spend our lives, doing what is expected of us, but in the process, we end up losing our own identities.

After living up to everyone else’s expectations, do you still remember the real you? Do you still know your likes and dislikes? Do you still have your own dreams?

And I mean your own dreams, not anyone else’s. Not what they want for you, but what you want for yourself.

Do you even have any expectations of yourself anymore? Goals you want to achieve? Or have they been buried deep beneath everyone else’s expectations for you? I hope it’s not the latter.
